We are a type design studio based in Prague founded by Filip Matějíček and Jan Horčík. Our typefaces appear across both cultural and commercial landscapes, and each one carries its own logic: some are rooted in historical heritage, some draw from folk art and basic human creativity, and some are deliberately speculative, designed to provoke conversation. We approach certain fonts pragmatically, others more like a painting.
A core part of our process is testing type in real practice through our own graphic design work, where we verify the potential of what we create. Most of our fonts originate from specific applications and our own ideas, which is why we’re open to custom type collaborations, or adapting existing designs from our catalogue to suit a particular need.
We stay in touch through our regular Communiqué – a communication bridge to the public about what’s happening and what’s ahead. Sometimes we get invited to talks to share our perspective on the field. “HW Wisdom” is what we call it. We’re open to workshops as well.
Our work has appeared in projects with MoMA PS1, Walker Art Center, El País, BBC, The New York Times, Eames Institute, Hamburger Bahnhof, Whitney Museum, ON Running, Rapha, Nike, Swatch, and others.
The team behind this project: Filip Matějíček (Co-Founder and Type Designer), Jan Horčík (Co-Founder and Type Designer), Connor Davenport (Type Designer), Giorgia Demi (Graphic Designer), Martin Kolerus (Web Designer), Jan Charvát (Font Engineer), Alejandro Sanz Seguí (Graphic Designer and Photographer), Tereza Havlínková (Photographer), Adéla Pachmannová (Editor)

All fonts distributed by Heavyweight Digital Type Foundry are proprietary software protected by copyright law and international treaty provisions. By downloading, installing, or using any Heavyweight font, you agree to be bound by the terms of the applicable End User License Agreement ("EULA").
Each license grants a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Font Software within a specific scope of use. No font may be used for any purpose not expressly covered by a purchased license. Using a font beyond the scope of your license requires the purchase of the appropriate additional license.
Heavyweight licenses are priced based on the total number of employees of the purchasing entity at the time of purchase, referred to as "Company Size." This includes all full-time and part-time employees. Geographic location and the number of devices are not factors in determining your license tier.
Freelancers, contractors, agencies, printers, and other third parties providing services to a Licensed Entity are not covered by that entity's license. They must obtain a separate 3rd Party Desktop License for the duration of the relevant project, and must uninstall and destroy all copies of the Font Software upon completion.
If your Company Size increases beyond the tier purchased, you are required to notify Heavyweight and upgrade your license accordingly.
Heavyweight offers a range of licenses to cover different use cases. Each license type is governed by its own EULA, available at the time of purchase. The available license types are:
Trial
For evaluation purposes only. No commercial use permitted.
Desktop & Print
For use on desktop computers to create print and digital documents.
Web

Social Media
For creating static content including images, graphics, and posts published on social media platforms.
Online Advertising
For paid digital advertising including display banners, HTML5 ads, and programmatic advertising.
Broadcasting
For use in broadcast productions via television, cable, and streaming systems.
Out of Home (OOH)
For use in outdoor and indoor advertising including billboards, DOOH, street furniture, and public spaces.
Video
For use in video and animation production. Covers distribution across all platforms including social media video formats.
Logo & Wordmark
For creating logos and wordmarks. The resulting outlined artwork may be used commercially without restriction.
3rd Party Desktop
For freelancers, contractors, and agencies working on a specific project on behalf of a Licensed Entity.
All fonts and typeface designs created by Heavyweight Digital Type Foundry are protected under copyright and other applicable intellectual property law. Heavyweight retains all rights, title, and interest in and to the Font Software, including its structure, code, and the typeface designs embodied therein.
You may not copy, modify, reverse engineer, decompile, or create derivative works based on any Heavyweight font or typeface design. You may not sublicense, distribute, rent, lend, or transfer any Heavyweight font to any third party except as expressly permitted by the applicable EULA. Unauthorized use of Heavyweight fonts constitutes an infringement of Heavyweight's intellectual property rights.
Heavyweight warrants that the Font Software will perform substantially in accordance with its documentation. In the event the Font Software does not perform as promised, Heavyweight will, at its sole discretion, replace the Font Software or refund the licensing fee, provided a claim is submitted within thirty (30) days of purchase.
Except as stated above, the Font Software is provided "AS IS" without warranty of any kind. Heavyweight's liability shall in no event exceed the refunding of the licensing fee paid.
All Heavyweight licenses are governed by the laws of the Czech Republic. Any disputes arising in connection with a Heavyweight license shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of the Czech Republic, or such other courts as Heavyweight may elect for the efficient resolution of any dispute.
If your intended use is not covered by any of the standard license types listed above, or if you have questions about which license is right for you, please get in touch. We are happy to discuss custom licensing arrangements for enterprise, institutional, or other specific use cases.

A font license grants you the right to use a font under specific conditions defined in the license agreement. By purchasing a license, you do not become the owner of the font, you acquire the right to use it within a defined scope. The one-time license fee is determined by the type of use and the size of your organization. We offer licenses for desktop and print, web, social media, video, broadcasting, out-of-home advertising, apps and games, logo and wordmark design, and more. Please read the applicable End User License Agreement (EULA) before purchasing. By downloading or installing any of our fonts, you automatically agree to the terms of the relevant EULA.
Company Size is the basis on which our licenses are priced. It refers to the total number of individuals employed by your organization on a full-time or part-time basis at the time of purchase. This includes all employees across all departments and locations. Geographic location and the number of devices are not relevant factors. If you are unsure about your Company Size, count all active full-time and part-time employees. If your organization grows beyond the tier you purchased, you are required to upgrade your license.
Yes. If your Company Size increases or your usage requirements expand, you can upgrade your license at any time. Please contact us at contact@heavyweight-type.com with your original invoice, and we will generate an upgrade for you.
If your Company Size increases beyond the tier covered by your current license, you are required to notify us and upgrade your license to the appropriate tier. Continued use of the font beyond your licensed Company Size without upgrading constitutes a breach of the license agreement.
The license should be purchased by the parent company, and the Company Size must reflect the total number of employees across all subsidiaries that will use the font. For larger organizations, we recommend contacting us directly to discuss an enterprise licensing arrangement.
No. If you wish to use a font in a way not covered by your current license, you must purchase the relevant additional license. For example, a Desktop license does not permit use on a website, that requires a separate Web license. Each use case has its own license type, and using a font outside the scope of your license is a breach of the agreement.
The Video license covers the use of a font within video editing and animation software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, Cinema 4D, or Blender to create a finished video or animated file. The resulting video can be distributed anywhere, including social media, YouTube, cinema, and corporate platforms. The Broadcasting license covers live or delayed transmission via television, cable, or streaming broadcast systems such as Chyron, Ross, or VizRT. If you are producing a finished video file, you need a Video license. If you are working in a live broadcast environment, you need a Broadcasting license.
Yes. The Video license covers distribution of finished video content across all platforms, including social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Facebook. However, if you wish to use the font as a standalone static asset on social media, for example, in a still image, a graphic post, or a story, that requires a separate Social Media license.
Yes, but you need a Logo and Wordmark license. This license permits you to use the font to create a logo or wordmark, which is then converted to outlined vector artwork. The resulting artwork can be used commercially without restriction by you or your client across all media. The font files themselves may not be transferred to the client. If the client wishes to use the font directly, they must purchase their own appropriate license.
The answer depends on how and where you are embedding the font:
PDF files: Embedding font files in PDF documents is generally not permitted. However, if your software embeds the font as vector outlines when exporting a PDF, as most design applications do by default, this is permitted provided you hold a valid Desktop and Print license. Sending such PDFs to a printer or client is covered by the same license.
Websites: Embedding fonts via CSS @font-face is covered by the Web license. Other forms of web embedding or linking are not permitted under any other license type.
Apps and games: Embedding fonts in the binary of an app or game is permitted exclusively under the App and Game license. The font must remain inaccessible and non-extractable by end users.
All other cases: Embedding font files in EPUB, Flash, server-generated documents, or any other format is not permitted under any Heavyweight license unless explicitly stated otherwise. If you have a specific use case, please contact us.
As a freelancer, contractor, or agency working on behalf of a client, you need a 3rd Party Desktop license. This license permits you to use the font for the duration of a specific project as defined in a written agreement with your client. Once the project is complete, you are required to uninstall and delete all copies of the font. If you are working on multiple projects for different clients, each project requires its own 3rd Party Desktop license, or you can contact us to discuss a broader arrangement.
The end client is the license holder. When purchasing a license on behalf of a client, the client's details should be used as the billing and license holder information. The client must hold an appropriate license for their own Company Size. The agency's license does not cover the client's internal use of the font. The client needs their own license for any use beyond what is delivered as part of the project.
Generally, font files may not be shared with third parties. If you need to share a font with a freelancer, printer, or external collaborator, they must obtain a 3rd Party Desktop license. This license is available when selecting the license type during the purchase process.
Our Web license is priced based on Company Size, consistent with all our other license types. Simply select the tier that corresponds to the total number of employees in your organization at the time of purchase.
Yes. A trial font is available for download on the page of each typeface. Trial fonts contain a basic character set upper and lower-case letters and basic punctuation and do not include OpenType features such as kerning. A trial license permits use for evaluation purposes only and may not be used in any final commercial or non-commercial product. A full license is required for all other uses.
We offer a 50% discount for students for both non-commercial and commercial projects undertaken during their studies. We also extend the same discount to educational institutions and registered non-profit organizations. To apply, please contact us at contact@heavyweight-type.com and include documentation confirming your eligibility.
We use Stripe to securely process all credit card transactions. We do not have access to your card details. For more information about security at Stripe, visit stripe.com/docs/security. Please note that we are currently unable to accept Diners Club, Discover, or JCB cards issued in the United States. If you hold one of these cards, please contact us at contact@heavyweight-type.com. We do not accept cryptocurrency. For font license purchases of EUR 1,000 or more, we can also accommodate international bank transfers.
Yes. The entity named in the billing information becomes the license holder. If you wish for a third party to be named as the license holder, please fill in their details in the license holder section of the purchase form.
If you experience a payment issue, we recommend checking your card limit and whether your card is enabled for online or international transactions. Also verify that your internet connection is stable. If the problem persists, please contact us at contact@heavyweight-type.com and we will assist you.
During the checkout process, you will be asked to create an account. This account serves as your personal hub on our website, where all your orders are stored and accessible at any time. Once your payment is confirmed, your font files and invoice will be available for download directly from your account. You will also receive a confirmation email. We recommend keeping your account details in a safe place so you can access your purchase history and re-download your fonts whenever needed.
We encourage you to review your selection carefully before completing your purchase, as all font license sales are final. Font licenses cannot be returned or exchanged. If you have a concern about your order, please contact us within 24 hours of purchase at contact@heavyweight-type.com and we will do our best to assist.
Our fonts are prepared with care and tested for functionality. If you do encounter a technical problem, please contact us at contact@heavyweight-type.com and we will be glad to help with any technical difficulties or installation questions.
Yes. We offer custom typeface design and bespoke lettering services. Please describe your project and we will prepare a proposal based on your brief. Examples of our custom work can be found in the Projects section of our website. To get in touch, contact us at contact@heavyweight-type.com.
